Political Power

Yes, it's election season and the barrage of nonsense is in full swing.  It's not just the rigged system in the US that bothers me, it's the nature of political power on a global scale and where it might be headed.  Is there an end game?  Is it a competition of ideologies or a carefully orchestrated puppet show?

One thing is the ridiculous two party system, winner take all, of US politics.  The candidates cannot reach the point of final election without jumping through hoops, scratching backs, buying favors, and knowing all the right people.  By the time we get to pick a winner, the two choices have already been carefully selected and screened.  Sure, there are other parties that run, but what are the chances of them getting elected?  Maybe if we had a parliamentary system where seats were divided up by percentage of votes received, it might be worthwhile to cast a vote for a third or fourth party.  So we're left with choosing the lesser of two evils, or choosing an ideology with which we identify.  Seriously people, do you think there's much of a difference between the two top candidates?  The machine that runs our country presents us, the sheeple, with two hand-picked nominees; neither one is representative of the common man!  No common man has the connections and resources of these candidates or the entities that support them.  It's the left and right arms of a single machine, delivering the blow regardless of the outcome.  The decline of America is happening regardless of who's in power; whether they steer us left or right, we're heading in the same direction.

And the rest of the world?  If you have the motivation, do some basic historical research and try to follow the chain of events that led to what's going on in the world today.  Many of these dictators and tyrannical regimes owe their existence to western nations; investigate the origins of the Taliban, for example.  I guess you can chalk it all up to poor decisions and unforeseen consequences, but I have hard time accepting that the pieces fall together so nicely on the back of "ooops, we screwed that one up".  Powerful nations rise and fall by controlled chaos--economics, wars, politics or some combination thereof.  Yet in the midst of this engineered madness, we find a cabal of powerful families, corporations, and ideologies underpinning all of it. I'm not paranoid, at least not enough to blind me to the facts of history.  Wealth and power is built up and then systemically pillaged; the cabal becomes richer and more powerful, starting the cycle over in another part of the world.

Maybe it's not a global conspiracy, I'm willing to consider that--what is it, then?  History repeating itself?  Are we so damned stupid that we just keep running on the hamster wheel?  Is it our collective ignorance that dooms us to stay in the cycle?  If it is, I'm no less disgusted!  If you believe it is how it appears to be and there is no underlying conspiracy or infallible ignorance, then please help me out with  a reasonable explanation.  Maybe, just maybe, you think these events (controlled or destined) are for our good.  Are we being manipulated to achieve the best possible outcome for mankind?  It's possible the puppet masters know us sheeple all too well and feel we are incapable of taking care of ourselves, so like a good shepherd they are guiding us to better pastures.  Forgive me while I cringe: is that possibility any less revolting than controlled chaos or inescapable destiny?
